I don’t like to check the time on my phone. Not only does it drain the battery, it’s also overtly obvious when sometimes, you want to be a little discreet.
I got my first somewhat stylish, certainly on trend watch in 2013. It was a birthday gift and more expensive than what I was willing to pay at the time, but I loved the freedom and fashion it provided. Besides, with my constant traveling, I liked being able to adjust the time based on wherever I may be.
Then the battery on my watch died.
It took over a year for me to replace the battery, and then a year later, it died again. By this time, the gift giver and I were out of eachothers lives, and beyond providing the time, the watch held no sentimental value. I did what any normal human being does when their watch battery dies: I bought a new watch.

Looking for an Affordable Automatic Watch
After my second watch battery died, I decided to look for a watch that didn’t require a battery. That means I had to look at different types of watch movement. Guess what? Although quartz sounds somewhat highbrow, it’s just a fancy way of saying that a watch works on battery power. I wanted an affordable automatic watch, and I found that that was a very difficult ask. Would I have to forego eating out for the next quarter to buy an affordable automatic watch?
When I looked online at some of my favorite retailers, I had sticker shock. Many of the prices I saw for automatic watches were in the four and five digit category. WHOA. With the purchase of our first home this year–hopefully– I can’t justify spending that much on a timepiece.

What’s Different with an Affordable Automatic Watch by Jord ?
Besides the much easier to swallow price tag, an affordable automatic watch by Jord, such as my Cora watch, is unique as all get out.
First, there is the West African zebrawood band. This luxury hardwood is typically used in home veneers, so the coarse grained, variative tan and brown make it easy to match with any colors.
Then there is the watch face. I know social morés say that women dress for other women, but this watch is a real man catcher. I’m serious. I have had two hands worth of men compliment me on this watch. TWO HANDS. That means at least six men, and truthfully, it’s seven. Gay, straight, professional, and working class, men dig this watch. Most of them have been strangers. Is it the wood band that catches their attention? Nope. It’s the teal watch face.
I think there is a certain level of fatigue with the plain, whiteface wristwatch. This iridescent teal is unexpected, and dare I say an outlier for today’s fashionable woman.
Finally, this is just a durable watch. With no battery to change and hardware made of ultra hardwood, you won’t tear a hole or discolor the band. This is a practical investment in an affordable automatic watch, and one that requires no maintenance.
