12 Places to Get High Tea in the Chicago Suburbs

Almost seven years ago, I posted my first round up on high tea in the Chicago suburbs, focusing on DuPage County. Since that time, I’ve found even more options for high tea in the Chicago suburbs. They span several counties, and are of varying price points. Since I’ve not had the chance to visit all of them, I’m not able to do a full round up on each place. I can provide you with the comprehensive list, and pricing guidelines for each.

I’m partial to the greats of DuPage County, but there are others throughout Chicagoland. I’ve categorized these by prices, with the following categories:

$$$$	$70 and up/person
$$$	$50-$69/person
$$	$39-$49/person
$	Under $39

Prices are high, but these are typically all-you-can-eat affairs where you can get more of whatever finger sandwich or morsel particularly suits your fancy. I tend to enjoy the egg salad or chicken salad because it is different than how I make it at home and usually is a little more exciting.

Things to Keep in Mind Ahead of High Tea in the Chicago Suburbs

High tea is typically a drawn out affair. Allow at least 90 minutes to spend enjoying the ambiance and time with friends. Some places only allow 90 minutes and kick you out, so double check with the establishment before you go.
Most places have set tea times, so you cannot just pop in without reservations.
Tea is a thoughtful process and each of the establishments listed requires at least 24 hours notice to attend a tea service.
Gluten free or dairy free options may not be available, but if they are, are subject to a surcharge.

A note for the gluten free among us: most of these places add a surcharge of $4-$10 for gluten free tea service. I have found this to be pretty outrageous simply because the gluten free offerings are neither inventive or up to the quality standard of the glutinous desserts. They are heavy on fresh fruit and no-bake alternatives, which has been a let down. Although I practice mostly gluten free eating, I do find that high tea is one area where I am willing to opt for gluten.
