Fun Things to do in Chicago This March

Last Updated on April 30, 2019 by JaimeSays

Finally March! The days are getting longer and my mood has been much better as a result.  I think I’ve been in hibernation mode, trying to preserve my energy and my money for more worthwhile jaunts. Now that it’s March, however, I am back in action.  There are so many things to do in Chicago this month, I’d love to share with you some events that I’m looking forward to, and get your feedback about what you are looking forward to. Thinking about planning a summer trip? Here are 10 things to do in Petoskey Michigan this summer.

March 10th: Daylight Saving Time!

While it really stinks that we all lose an hour of sleep, the extra light in the day is SO worth it. While our phones update themselves, don’t forget to turn the clocks ahead in your car, on your analog watches, and on any kitchen appliances.

March 16th: Chicago’s River Dyeing and Saint Patrick’s Day Parade

Chicago Green River

There are so many things to do in Chicago on Saint Patrick’s Day.  While mid-March weather can be 70ºF and sunny or 35ºF and rainy, the crowds turn out for the annual river dying event.  This year, river dying starts at 9AM meaning you’ll want to get to the river by about 8AM to get a decent viewing spot.  The parade begins at 1 pm on Columbus Drive, from Balbo north to Monroe.  At nearly three hours long, you’ve got time to come and go as you please.

Maybe the most Instagrammable River North bars are a good place to take in the green river….

If you are Looking to Get Out of The City…

  • March 2-11 is Restaurant Week for Westmont, IL.  You can find the list of participating restaurants here.
  • Not interested in Saint Patrick’s Day Revelry?  Head to Oak Brook’s Fullersburg Woods instead to tap some Maple trees! There are guided tours and sample tastings all day for an opportunity to Get Sticky!
  • Participate in a charity casino night at the Dupage County Historical Museum on March 9th.
  • Itasca is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for adults! Perfect for the particularly competitive scavenger in your life.
  • Consider yourself an adventurer? Maybe caving should be your next day trip.

This weekend I will be studying for my next level wine sommelier test and enjoying sitting at home! After three consecutive weekends out of town, I’m very grateful to get a chance to relax at home. I may even treat myself to a Chicago day spa.

Having fun with my college roommates and our husbands at one of our best friend’s wedding in Jersey City!

I’ll also be attempting to declutter as well as start the planning phase of our next big trip. I’m still trying to figure out how to incorporate my favorite islands into this one. What about you? Do you have any fun activities or trips planned in March?  Send me a link!

Yeah, and wouldn’t you believe that it is an orange powder that turns the river green? Such a cool event.
