If you’ve been around here long enough, you know that Northern Michigan holds a special place in my heart! Not only do we have some family history from the area, but it is truly the best shoreline in the Midwest, and maybe all of America! Ready to dine your way through my favorite Charlevoix restaurants?
1. The Landing Restaurant at Ironton Cove
A lakeside classic, open for breakfast and lunch, here you can watch the Ironton Ferry come in across the narrows. Lobster rolls and sandwiches are plentiful. It’s casual and friendly; a must for views and flavor. Bonus: they have plenty of gluten free options on the menu.
2. Terry’s of Charlevoix
Right downtown on Antrim Street, this is Charlevoix’s standout for white tablecloth dining. It was here that I experienced my first taste of Morel mushrooms and understood all the hype! The seasonal rotations are a thoughtful and sustainable way to bring local offerings to the table, and the fish offerings are plentiful. Chef Paul Bradley trained at CIA and brings polished flavors. Perfect for date night or special celebrations. Regulars mention filet with stone mustard sauce or whitefish shrimp special as house favorites.
3. Cantina Tacos and Tequila – Charlevoix
You know I love a gluten free/friendly option, and Cantina Tacos and Tequila fits the bill for Charlevoix restuaurants. Not only do they have a great patio to sit at on Van Pelt Place, they offer a la carte dining. For me, that is important because I typically just want three tacos without rice and beans, but my children just want rice and beans for a meal. If you are in a rush, there is a food truck for takeaway just tucked behind the restaurant.

4. Smoke On The Water
This breakfast and lunch spot is a cash-only lakeside bistro that offers barbecue, fresh perch, sandwiches and wraps. They do consistent takeout and outdoor dining, and are very family friendly. Its easy lakeside location and menu bring classics and comfort all around. One of those Charlevoix restaurants that is delicious and comfortable.
5. That French Place
That French Place is a great spot for take away. A crêperie and coffee spot in the morning, it is just as good when you want to grab something for a waterfront or boat picnic. I adore the savory crepes and was very impressed by their lasagna. They’ve also won awards for their hot chocolate so definitely worth a visit!
6. The Argonne House
This traditional Midwest supper club is not one of the downtown Charlevoix restaurants, but is a little outside of town. It serves generous portions at fair prices, and has reliably good shrimp platters and fish entrees. It has a small outdoor patio with charming twinkle lights, and offer considerable value. It’s a bit more formal inside, but has relaxed vibes and very friendly servers.
7. Celeste Murdick’s Fudge and Candy Shop
A few doors down from Terry’s, you’ll find this delicious fudge and candy shop, a true staple of Northern Michigan. Candy, ice cream, and a fourth, fifth, or sixth generation Murdick making fudge right with the family recipe that originated on Mackinac Island in 1887.
8. Bridge Street Tap Room
Looking for an extensive beer list and some reliable grub? Bridge Street Tap Room has a bustling Beer Garden and 24 different taps to choose from. Try some local beers to get a true taste of MIchigan!
9. The Castle Pub and 1918 Cellars at Castle Farms
Ever wanted to eat in a Castle? While the food is limited with charcuterie boards and sandwiches, it hits the spot in the courtyard or under the turrets of a 1918 Castle. They have their own line of wines and the castle is a popular wedding spot, with beautiful landscaping and views. Don’t forget to get some Michigan wine from 1918 Cellars! This is a fun architectural spot, full of history in Charlevoix.
10. Stafford’s Weathervane
Built by Charlevoix visionary Earl Young, this bustling spot square in downtown is a place to see and be seen. And the food is great, too! A bit pricier, on par with Terry’s, the wrap around patio offers incredible views of Bridge Street/Michigan Avenue. Offering a salty, spicy, and tart Portside Bloody Mary, they also have extensive options for mocktails and Northwoods Sodas. This is where I think of when I picture Charlevoix restaurants.

Charlevoix Restaurants I Haven’t Had a Chance to Try
- The Villager Pub: Next door to Terry’s, locals call it a long‑time fave, great for casual drinks and neighborhood vibe
- Grey Gables Inn & Tavern: Old‑school fine dining just outside town, located in the same spot since 1936.
- The Salad Fork: Casual lunch spot with locally grown greens and produce.
- Vue Wine Bar: With 110 wines to enjoy with views of the channel and drawbridge, or to take home, this will be a stop next time I am in town!
Quick Tips
- Check your weather app for sunset and arrive early for those water‑front patios to catch sunset light
- Not everwhere accepts reservation, so call ahead
- Boaters dock off Ironton for the Landing or glide into Bridge Street dock beside the channel
- Pet‑friendly patios: Argonne House, The Back Lot, Bridge Street Tap Room
- Fridays through Sundays are picture perfect but lines form fast

Between lakeside lobster rolls and neighborhood pub specials, you won’t have trouble finding where to eat in Charlevoix, Michigan. Be aware that during the Northern Michigan summer high season, you may want to check on reservations or plan to wait. There is something to satisfy every craving at Charlevoix restaurants, so Snap a sunset photo with your ice cream from Murdicks or raise a glass at Weathervane over the channel. Cheers!
